One home. One connected network.

Houston, Texas

Resolving separate wired and wireless networks and addressing an unreliable entertainment system.

After: updated equipment and reorganized connections in the existing cabinet.

The starting point

The homeowner was experiencing network and entertainment-system problems despite having builder-installed Cat5e wiring. The AT&T gateway served the wired devices while an Eero mesh system served the Wi-Fi devices on a separate network.

What we changed

  1. Installed a new router and upgraded the network switch to support gigabit connections.

  2. Replaced the mesh setup with Ubiquiti wireless access points.

  3. Configured IP Passthrough on the AT&T gateway to bring the wired and wireless devices onto one managed network.

  4. Replaced outdated HDBaseT mirroring equipment and ran a new cable to address TV reliability.

The result

Wired and wireless devices now operate on one managed network. Targeted equipment and cabling changes also addressed the home's TV problems.

More cable is not always the answer. Understanding how the existing equipment works together can reveal configuration problems that affect the whole home.
